"D. Baron"

"D. Barron" QDJ 2, 3, and 5 Pg. 708-709

2.     I think that he is saying that it is hard for him to think of all the new technologies that will come but I don't think he is meaning it in a bad way. In my opinion, I think he thinks new technology does change the shape and nature of the way we write.

3.     They are called "priestly" because at first when they have a new technology it is very expensive and he says there is a certain ignorance. The practitioners keep it to themselves at first and then gradually expand to some of the older accepted forms of communication.

5.     Baron discusses fraud and authenticity so much because he thinks its a very important issue. These days anyone with a computer can put out any type of information into cyberspace he says. Also there are so many people who can just take information and be deceitful. Thats why with new technology come new security to try and help this issue.

Comparing Writing Processes

Comparing Writing Processes

There are many differences in how I write compared to my partner. First of all he writes better in public places. I write my best when I am by myself, in my room, and with the door shut. He usually waits until its time to write the final draft to be alone. He loves to drink hot coffee or tea while he is writing. I usually don't drink anything but soda to keep me focused and awake. We both do not really eat anything or watch TV while we are writing because they are both huge distractions. Also, we both like to listen to soft calming music. He usually doesn't spend too much time on editing and revising. Once he is done with the paper, he usually will make sure everything makes sense and be done. I definitely do way more editing with my writing. I probably spend more time editing than I actually do writing the paper. We both have a lot of things in common but a lot different . This definitely opens your eyes to what other people do while writing other than yourself.

Murray-2

Response of a Laboratory Rat- or, Being Protocoled

1.    My impression on Murray's writing processes were that he spent so much time editing and revising his writing. I should probably edit and revise way more than I usually do. Sometimes I'm so happy to be done with the paper I tell myself the paper is fine when I really should read it over again and edit. I definitely do that differently.

3.    I believe at first she would be constantly changing everything she was working on. She explained that writing goes through a process and it can be a cycle. Just because you might have a final draft for something doesn't mean you cant keep going over it and revising it. By doing this she realized how to solve and finish certain studies.

4.   One problem she had was the certain habits to gather the data. Sometimes she didn't understand what her husband's thought processes were because of his data habits. Overall it has helped him with his writing, teaching, and thinking. This hopefully will encourage other writers.

My Writing Process

"My Writing Process"

Step 1: Read (Prewriting)
  • Usually it takes me a long time to pick a topic. If i have to choose one I would rather write about myself or personal experiences. That makes it easier for me to start brainstorming ideas.
  • When a topic is given to me I usually end up asking alot of questions about it and start researching it to help give me better ideas.
Step 2: Think (Prewriting)
  • Once I know my topic and begin researching i usually keep up with all of my resources read them all together. This helps me to actually understand everything and start thinking about different things to write about in my paper.
Step 3: Organize Thoughts (Outlining)
  • Basically i look at all my resources and research and organize all the information into groups. This helps me get all of my ideas together.
  • Once I put all the information into groups it helps me to figure out how I'm going to organize and set up everything i want to say in my paper.
Step 4: Rough Draft
  • I just begin writing whatever come to my mind first. Then later I go and delete or add certain ideas. This helps me to not get stuck while writing and to keep the paper flowing.
Step 5: The Final Draft:
  • I make sure everything makes sense and that I have hit every point that I was suppose to hit in my writing.
  • I read my whole paper to myself out loud to make sure everything sound right and stays on topic.
  • I read it out loud to someone else to make sure everything sounds right to them.
Step 6: Edit/ Proofread
  • I put on spell check to make sure I have everything spelled correctly and i check for any other grammar mistakes.
  • Let someone else read it like a parent or adult to make sure everything seems right to them.

Rigid Rules, Inflexible Plans, and the Stifling of Language: A Cognitivist Analysis of Writer's Block by Mike Rose

"Rose" QDG (1,2,4)

  • A good essay will always grab the reader's attention immediately
  • You must have 3 or more points in an essay
  • Generate an outline for the essay
  • Prepare material, strategies, and plans to solve a problem
1.     The rule that always seems to give me trouble is catching the reader's attention. I never know if my writing is interesting enough so it causes me to doubt myself. This always keeps me erasing and trying to write new things.

2.  In Rose's study the blockers were following the rules of the algorithms. In his study he states that algorithms are precise rules that will always result in a specific answer. The nonblockers use some rules but they do not allow the rules to get in the way of their composing process. the blockers focus way too much on their rules and plans rather than letting their writing be more free.

4.     If a rule is restricting you from your free writing it’s not a good rule, because it should let you write freely without being restricted on your ideas. This rule is set it all if it is not allowing writing as you wished it’s a bad rule you should follow. This rule is heuristic.

Murray and Strasser

"All Writing is Autobiography"

1.       Murray describes autobiography as your own thinking style. He describes how everyone has their own way at looking at the world and own way of using language to communicate what they see. Everyone has a different perspective on life and events going on around them. Many different people could read the same poem but interpret it in whatever way they see it.

2.     If Murray is right I would think writing would be a little but more interesting to many people. There are so many people who do not realize what he says about autobiographies. They do not think about how their perspective of a story could be completely different from someone else's. They would encourage me to write more about my personal thoughts and realize what my autobiography of writing is.

6.     Many of the recent papers that I have written for school have had prompts or topics to write about. I have not really written a paper on whatever I wanted to write on in a while. I believe that it hasn't showed autobiography, or at least in the sense Murray describes.

"Writing What Matters" by Strasser

1.     I fully agree with what Strasser writes about being able to express important and powerful feelings in writing. I feel correct grammar is very important in writing a paper but if it isn't fun for the student then its useless. Encouraging to share your feelings and emotions makes writing much more interesting and could really impact others.

2.     I do not believe that Strasser is right to assume that because different people write in different ways. I think that good grammar is definitely good to learn but it should not be all you care about while writing a paper. Meaningful writing is very important and something many people do not see today.

3.     I do not believe that school creates that separation of mind, body, and spirit. In my opinion I feel like student do not put a huge effort just so they can be finished. Student are not encouraged to write deep, meaningful writings.
